Rapunzel Princess Tower Kids Craft

by Katie Wallace | Updated: March 5, 2017

The story of Rapunzel is full of adventure and magic, making it a favorite in our house! Like Rapunzel, my daughters love crafting and painting, so we had a great time creating this Rapunzel princess tower. A DIY doll castle is simple to make using using recycled food containers. It’s a fun project for little princesses who love to create!

We made this adorable Rapunzel princess tower by stacking a powdered lemonade canister on top of an oatmeal container. After cutting out windows, we added a paper stone pattern to give the walls a castle-like look. You can find the printable rock pattern below! The best part was decorating the tower with rhinestones and flower accents, adding a magical touch to this fun kids craft.

Make a Rapunzel Princess Tower

Design a Rapunzel princess tower to inspire hours of imaginative play! To create your own princess tower, start by stacking two clean, empty cylindrical containers. We used a powdered lemonade canister and an oatmeal container. However, you can use any similar-sized items you have on hand. Secure them firmly together with hot glue. For extra durability, reinforce the seam between the containers with clear packing tape.

Create the Tower Floor

Next, make the inner room in the top of the Rapunzel princess tower. For this, we used one of the container lids to create a floor in the tower about 8 inches from the top.

To create the floor, use hot glue to attach a lid or a circle of cardboard inside the tower. Make a cut halfway across the lid and overlap the edges a bit to squeeze the lid into the tower. Finally, glue a circle of colored paper on top of the lid to make a colored floor.

Add Windows to the Princess Tower

Once the floor is in place, cut a large window in the side of the tower, right above where the floor begins. Kids can use this window to play with small dolls inside the tower. We made one large arched window in the side of our Rapunzel princess tower.

Add the Stone Pattern

Next, print off this rock pattern onto colored paper to create a realistic stone effect. For example, I used sheets of light blue construction paper to bring out the details in the stone design. To get started, simply right-click the printable below and open it in a new tab; then, hit Ctrl + P to print it off. Adding a paper stone pattern is a simple yet effective way to make your homemade princess tower look more realistic and detailed.

Complete this step by attaching the paper rock pattern onto your tower using craft glue or rubber cement. Overlap several paper sheets as seamlessly as you can, to create a stone tower look. Carefully trim the rock pattern around the edges of the window openings.

A printed rock pattern makes this princess tower craft look whimsically detailed and more realistic.

Create the Tower Roof

Additionally, make a roof for the tower using the second top from the food containers or a circular piece of cardboard. We attached cardstock to the oatmeal container lid to create a peaked roof. I glued a layer of glittery purple paper on top of the cardstock to give our DIY Rapunzel princess tower a unique style! Our princess tower roof is also removable so kids can take it off.

Decorate the Princess Tower

Finally comes the fun part! You can decorate your princess tower castle with trim that looks like vines and flowers, intertwined with rhinestone flowers and beads. This homemade princess tower craft is a great way to use mismatched jewels and flowers left over from other craft projects.

decorate your diy princess tower with rhinestones and flowers

My daughter had a blast helping me to glue our glittery accents, rhinestones, and flowers onto our DIY Rapunzel princess tower. I made dots of hot glue and she carefully pressed pretty accents onto the tower walls. I prefer using hot glue for craft projects because it dries almost instantly. However, my daughter had to be careful to not touch the glue when she was sticking the jewels and flowers on.

Add Wallpaper & Furniture

I also added colorful printed scrapbook paper inside the princess tower to create pretty wallpaper. Additionally, a Rapunzel sticker in a tiny paper frame serves as a cute portrait on the wall, adding a charming detail. Best of all, you can decorate the inside of your princess tower however you want, making it uniquely your own.

Overall, the sparkly jewels and ribbon accents are my favorite part of our DIY Rapunzel princess tower. In fact, they add the perfect touch of magic and whimsy! Surprisingly, no one would ever guess that this charming princess castle is made from a recycled lemonade canister and an oatmeal container!

My daughter has enjoyed hours of fun playing with this DIY princess tower, and as you can see, Rapunzel looks pretty happy too! To make it even more magical, we used some of our small doll furniture from other playsets to furnish the inside. Finally, the glittery roof adds the crowning touch to this creative kids’ project.

A creative craft can be such a fun learning activity for kids! I enjoy teaching my girls how to re-purpose items that we have into something unique. We didn’t have to buy anything for this project because I have a box of assorted craft supplies at home. I hope you are inspired by our ideas to create fun things with your own kids!

This is beautiful! I’m trying it at home. Can you give me a pointer? How did you fit the top inside the container to make a floor? I’m having trouble squeezing mine in.

Hi Patty! Good question. I cut a slit halfway across the top so I could overlap the edges a bit and make the circle smaller. I’d love to see how yours turns out!

My 2 granddaughters (sisters) loved watching the movie Tangled and are big Rapunzel fans. Last Halloween the 5 yr old wore a Rapunzel costume. This tower is a great project to do with them when they visit. I know they’ll alternate with their other Disney characters in the tower. Thanks… Read more »

Cerrado los lunes! 😟☀️ We showed up at the zoo onl Cerrado los lunes! 😟☀️ We showed up at the zoo only to discover it was closed on Mondays.

Thankfully, our family has gotten pretty good at pivoting when plans change. Instead of heading home, we set off on a mile-long walk to Centro Histórico Mérida and turned an unexpected detour into an adventure.

We explored local markets, enjoyed tacos and sopa de lima for lunch, and let the kids burn off energy at a park. The Mérida heat definitely called for a treat, so we stopped for fruit bars that cost just 40 pesos (about $2.50) each. We made it home just in time for Juliet’s nap!

Next time, we’ll check the zoo schedule before we go. But honestly, this unexpected change of plans turned into a pretty great day!

✨ Takeaways:

• Travel helps build resilient kids. When plans change, they learn to adapt, stay positive, and enjoy the adventure anyway.

• Some of our best experiences happen when things don’t go as planned. The zoo will still be there another day! 🦓🐊🦛

• We’re growing in Spanish every day. The kids are becoming more confident with pronunciation, casual phrases, and new vocabulary as we navigate life in Mexico.

💬 What do you want to know about our life in Mexico?

Hola from Mérida! 🇲🇽☀️ Our first week has been cha Hola from Mérida! 🇲🇽☀️ Our first week has been challenging and rewarding as we settle into life in Mexico with our 4 kids!

• We’re finding our new normal, discovering favorite stores, trying grocery delivery, getting used to air-drying clothes and doing dishes (no clothes dryer or dishwasher).

 • We’ve almost finished all steps for receiving our family’s permanent residency cards. Praying for successful completion!

 • Also experiencing frequent tropical afternoon downpours, magnificent and soaking! 🌴

 • Being without city water for 20 hours, which impacted washing dishes and taking showers. We used our rooftop water tank sparingly.

 • House hunting & touring several long term rental houses; we hope to find a good fit for our stay-at-home lifestyle and hosting too!

I keep reminding myself that we moved here! We’re not just visiting for a few weeks. 🤯😄

Overall, we’re grateful. ☀️🙂 It’s been a good first week, and we’re excited to continue settling in and discovering what life in Mérida has in store for our family!
