DIY Baby Barefoot Sandals

by Katie Wallace | Updated: April 10, 2017

This DIY baby accessory is SO cute! Baby flower barefoot sandals are adorable accessories for dress-up, photoshoots, parties and more! They are made from loops of elastic topped with a silk flower. Easily make your own baby flower barefoot sandals for your little girl! All you need is a few supplies such as ribbon, elastic and crafty accents.

How to make baby flower barefoot sandals

Materials

  • colorful fold-over elastic
  • satin ribbon 1/2 inch wide
  • small craft accents, flowers, or rhinestones
  • needle and thread
  • hot glue gun

Adorable baby flower barefoot sandals DIY craft

Easily make these adorable no-sew baby flower barefoot sandals yourself! First, gather the materials needed. If you can, wrap the elastic around your baby’s foot in a figure 8 to measure how much elastic you need. For babies ages 0 to 6 months, 8 to 9 inches of elastic should work. Start by creating the ribbon flowers. Sew together symmetrical loops of ribbon to create a flower or star-like design. Anchor each ribbon loop to the center of the flower with a few stitches. Once the ribbon flower is complete, tie off the thread with a double knot.

Next, use a hot glue gun to glue a decorative craft accent or a small silk flower in the center of the ribbon flower. Turn the ribbon flower over and hot glue the fold-over elastic to the flower in a symmetrical figure 8 pattern. The baby barefoot sandal should have two even elastic loops on either side of the ribbon flower.

You can create baby flower barefoot sandals to match any baby outfit! It’s fun to design baby barefoot sandals using a variety of colors and decorative accents. These cute no-sew baby barefoot sandals are especially adorable for infant photoshoots, which usually include at least a few photos of baby’s feet and toes!

Coordinate with a Hair Clip

Finally, you can even make a coordinating hair clip to go with your baby flower barefoot sandals. I used the same ribbon and a matching sequin decorative accent to create an adorable baby hair clip. I covered a hair clip with ribbon and glued the decorative accent on top.

You could create a whole set of no-sew baby flower barefoot sandals and hair clips using any colors you’d like! These darling baby accessories are great gifts for a baby shower or birthday party. It’s also fun to just make them for your own little one — made with love.

Cerrado los lunes! 😟☀️ We showed up at the zoo onl Cerrado los lunes! 😟☀️ We showed up at the zoo only to discover it was closed on Mondays.

Thankfully, our family has gotten pretty good at pivoting when plans change. Instead of heading home, we set off on a mile-long walk to Centro Histórico Mérida and turned an unexpected detour into an adventure.

We explored local markets, enjoyed tacos and sopa de lima for lunch, and let the kids burn off energy at a park. The Mérida heat definitely called for a treat, so we stopped for fruit bars that cost just 40 pesos (about $2.50) each. We made it home just in time for Juliet’s nap!

Next time, we’ll check the zoo schedule before we go. But honestly, this unexpected change of plans turned into a pretty great day!

✨ Takeaways:

• Travel helps build resilient kids. When plans change, they learn to adapt, stay positive, and enjoy the adventure anyway.

• Some of our best experiences happen when things don’t go as planned. The zoo will still be there another day! 🦓🐊🦛

• We’re growing in Spanish every day. The kids are becoming more confident with pronunciation, casual phrases, and new vocabulary as we navigate life in Mexico.

💬 What do you want to know about our life in Mexico?

Hola from Mérida! 🇲🇽☀️ Our first week has been cha Hola from Mérida! 🇲🇽☀️ Our first week has been challenging and rewarding as we settle into life in Mexico with our 4 kids!

• We’re finding our new normal, discovering favorite stores, trying grocery delivery, getting used to air-drying clothes and doing dishes (no clothes dryer or dishwasher).

 • We’ve almost finished all steps for receiving our family’s permanent residency cards. Praying for successful completion!

 • Also experiencing frequent tropical afternoon downpours, magnificent and soaking! 🌴

 • Being without city water for 20 hours, which impacted washing dishes and taking showers. We used our rooftop water tank sparingly.

 • House hunting & touring several long term rental houses; we hope to find a good fit for our stay-at-home lifestyle and hosting too!

I keep reminding myself that we moved here! We’re not just visiting for a few weeks. 🤯😄

Overall, we’re grateful. ☀️🙂 It’s been a good first week, and we’re excited to continue settling in and discovering what life in Mérida has in store for our family!
