Toddler Birthday Party Ideas – Fairy & Garden Theme

by Katie Wallace | Updated: January 19, 2026

A second birthday feels like a big milestone. We celebrated our little girl turning two with cupcakes, twinkle lights, and whimsical fairy decorations. I love any excuse to host a cute kids party. I often plan fancy treats, DIY party decor, and interactive kids activities. Here are some of the toddler birthday party ideas I chose to make my daughter’s day feel extra special.

This fairy themed birthday party was intentionally simple. I wanted it to feel magical without being overwhelming, or expensive. We stuck with cupcakes, a tiny birthday cake, and a few favorite snacks. My older daughter even helped decorate the cake during nap time, which made it extra sweet. This party was low-key, joyful, and perfect for celebrating our baby girl.

A Simple Fairy Birthday Cake & Snacks

I made a small birthday cake with simple frosting details and colorful sprinkles. It was just the right size for our celebration. Next time, I may add a few themed cake toppers for extra sparkle. We paired the cake with coordinating cupcakes for all our guests!

For snacks, we kept options toddler-friendly and low-mess. Fish crackers and gummy bears were an easy choice. I also made chocolate-dipped pretzel rods. Furthermore, yogurt-dipped frozen berry sticks were an extra fun and unique treat! These toddler birthday party ideas were easy, tasty, and festive!

Creative Fairy Party Decorations

For decorations, I created a little fairy tent using PVC pipe and soft organza fabric I already had on hand. Flower twinkle lights and a homemade fabric flower garland added the perfect fairy garden feel. I also used my daughter’s Disney fairy dolls as decorations, which doubled as toys once the party started.

Fancy Tip! One of my favorite decorating tricks is using leftover fabric as table toppers. I loosely scrunch it under platters for color and texture. After several parties, I now have a whole stash of fabrics in different colors, which I reuse again and again.

Fairy Crafts for Toddlers

Additionally, I set up a simple fairy coloring station for the kids. Party guests decorated fairy coloring pages with dots of craft glue and rhinestones. This was such a great craft for a two-year-old. We used glitter gel pens instead of markers, which kept things much less messy.

Another favorite kids activity was making DIY glitter fairy jars. We reused VOSS plastic water bottles and filled them with colored water, glitter, beads, and gems. Finally, we sealed each bottle with tape. The kids loved shaking the bottles and watching the glittery accents swirl around inside.

I also put out our Green Toys Build-a-Bouquet set, which kids enjoyed playing with between party activities. Toddlers can easily mix and match pieces to create their own flower bouquets. This flower play set is a great fairy themed toy that is fun and interactive for different ages.

Toddler Birthday Party Ideas Recap

If you’re planning a fairy themed birthday party for a toddler, here are a few simple ideas to get you started:

  • Keep the menu easy with cupcakes, a small cake, and familiar snacks.
  • Use toys your kids already love as decorations.
  • Create a fairy tent with fabric and twinkle lights.
  • Set up simple crafts like coloring pages, glitter jars, or flower building toys.
  • Reuse decor and craft supplies to keep costs low.

Of course, the best part of any party is eating cake and opening presents. This celebration cost about $20 because I reused decor and supplies, and it felt just right for our two-year-old. My daughter’s fairy themed birthday party was simple, sweet, and full of joy.

 • 4 bedrooms

Cerrado los lunes! 😟☀️ We showed up at the zoo onl Cerrado los lunes! 😟☀️ We showed up at the zoo only to discover it was closed on Mondays.

Thankfully, our family has gotten pretty good at pivoting when plans change. Instead of heading home, we set off on a mile-long walk to Centro Histórico Mérida and turned an unexpected detour into an adventure.

We explored local markets, enjoyed tacos and sopa de lima for lunch, and let the kids burn off energy at a park. The Mérida heat definitely called for a treat, so we stopped for fruit bars that cost just 40 pesos (about $2.50) each. We made it home just in time for Juliet’s nap!

Next time, we’ll check the zoo schedule before we go. But honestly, this unexpected change of plans turned into a pretty great day!

✨ Takeaways:

• Travel helps build resilient kids. When plans change, they learn to adapt, stay positive, and enjoy the adventure anyway.

• Some of our best experiences happen when things don’t go as planned. The zoo will still be there another day! 🦓🐊🦛

• We’re growing in Spanish every day. The kids are becoming more confident with pronunciation, casual phrases, and new vocabulary as we navigate life in Mexico.

💬 What do you want to know about our life in Mexico?

Hola from Mérida! 🇲🇽☀️ Our first week has been cha Hola from Mérida! 🇲🇽☀️ Our first week has been challenging and rewarding as we settle into life in Mexico with our 4 kids!

• We’re finding our new normal, discovering favorite stores, trying grocery delivery, getting used to air-drying clothes and doing dishes (no clothes dryer or dishwasher).

 • We’ve almost finished all steps for receiving our family’s permanent residency cards. Praying for successful completion!

 • Also experiencing frequent tropical afternoon downpours, magnificent and soaking! 🌴

 • Being without city water for 20 hours, which impacted washing dishes and taking showers. We used our rooftop water tank sparingly.

 • House hunting & touring several long term rental houses; we hope to find a good fit for our stay-at-home lifestyle and hosting too!

I keep reminding myself that we moved here! We’re not just visiting for a few weeks. 🤯😄

Overall, we’re grateful. ☀️🙂 It’s been a good first week, and we’re excited to continue settling in and discovering what life in Mérida has in store for our family!
